Dental work in Puebla usually costs a fraction of US prices. Puebla dentists list a crown between MXN 2,900 and MXN 5,000 (about US$155 to $270) on Doctoralia (the middle half of 115 listed prices, checked October 27, 2026), while a porcelain crown averages $1,399 in the US, according to CareCredit’s national cost study. Below is the same comparison for 10 common treatments, and what the price gap leaves out.

Doctoralia prices are what dentists choose to publish, not quotes, and many are «from» prices (for crowns, 62 of 115 clinics). The US cleaning figure includes an exam and x-rays; the Puebla one is the cleaning alone. CareCredit’s general cost list shows a higher figure for a standard implant, $4,344 per tooth, so check whether a US quote includes the abutment and crown.
Clínica Dental Spota publishes prices only for veneers and whitening. They are «from» prices, confirmed at your first visit. More in veneers in Mexico.
How much are crowns in Mexico? Puebla crown prices in detail
We walked every page of Doctoralia’s Puebla crown listings (dental crown, aesthetic, zirconia, porcelain fused to metal, e.max, metal-free and metal; the porcelain crown listing had no Puebla results). One price per clinic, leaving out children’s crowns, crown removal and re-cementing:
- All adult crowns: 115 clinics. Lowest MXN 800, middle half MXN 2,900 to 5,000 (about US$155 to $270), median MXN 4,000 (about US$215), highest MXN 18,000 (about US$970).
- Zirconia: only 4 clinics publish a price, MXN 4,800 to 9,000 (about US$260 to $485). Too few for a typical price.
- Porcelain fused to metal: 4 clinics, MXN 2,600 to 5,000 (about US$140 to $270).
- Lithium disilicate (e.max): 1 clinic, from MXN 8,540 (about US$460).
Most listings say only «coronas estéticas» (tooth-colored crowns) without the material, and none say whether the temporary crown, a build-up or x-rays are included. Ask before you compare.
The math on one crown: the Puebla median of about US$215 is about 85% less than the US porcelain crown average of $1,399 ($215 is about 15% of $1,399). After a root canal, the American Association of Endodontists (AAE) says a crown is placed to protect the tooth, because an unrestored tooth can fracture.
What changes the price
- Number of teeth. Every price above is for one tooth or appliance.
- Material. In the few Puebla prices published by material, zirconia and e.max sit above porcelain fused to metal, and porcelain veneers above composite.
- Which tooth. A US molar root canal runs $833 to $2,171, a front tooth $590 to $1,527 (CareCredit, 2026). The AAE adds case complexity and the restoration needed afterward.
- What is included. X-rays or CT scan, temporaries, build-ups, lab work, adjustments. CareCredit’s crown averages leave out the consultation and any extraction; its implant figure leaves out the crown.
- Extra procedures. Extractions, bone grafts or a sinus lift before an implant. CareCredit lists a US sinus lift at $2,022 and a socket graft at $558 on average.
How many trips will you need?
Implant steps are explained in dental implants in Mexico.
| Treatment | Usual visits | What it means for your trip |
|---|---|---|
| Crown | Two appointments; the lab needs about two to three weeks, sometimes longer (Cleveland Clinic) | Stay two to three weeks or come twice, unless the clinic makes same-day (CAD/CAM) crowns |
| Root canal | One to two appointments, then a crown (AAE) | Plan around the crown timeline |
| Implant | Placement, then three to nine months of healing before the crown (Cleveland Clinic) | Usually two trips, months apart |
| Dentures | Several visits to get the fit right; weeks or months to get used to them (Cleveland Clinic) | Leave time for adjustments before you fly home |
What the price comparison leaves out
- Flights, hotel and meals, times the number of trips.
- Time off work, including the days between appointments.
- Follow-up. If a crown needs adjusting after you fly home, you fly back or pay a US dentist. The CDC advises making sure you can get follow-up care in the US; care for complications can be expensive and may not be covered by insurance.
- Records. The CDC recommends getting copies of all your records before you return home.
The US State Department’s health information for Mexico says Medicare and Medicaid do not pay for medical care in Mexico, that legal options in case of malpractice are very limited, and that PROFECO, Mexico’s consumer agency (Spanish only), may help resolve disputes over medical services.
Safety: on October 27, 2026, the State Department’s advisory for Mexico was Level 2, «Exercise Increased Caution» (issued May 28, 2026). It says conditions vary by state and restricts travel in some areas; its summary does not name Puebla. Read the full advisory and its map before you book, and see our dental tourism in Mexico guide.
How to get a written estimate
Message us on WhatsApp in English or Spanish. Send photos or x-rays if you have them and we reply with a treatment plan and an estimate before you book your trip. The final price is confirmed at your evaluation in the clinic. With any clinic, get the estimate in writing and check that it lists:
- Each tooth, its treatment and the material.
- What is included: x-rays or CT scan, temporaries, build-ups, lab work, adjustments.
- The number of visits and the days between them.
- The currency and, if dollars, the exchange rate used.
- What happens, and what it costs, if something has to be redone.
The State Department advises getting all billing, pricing and procedure details before agreeing to any medical care in Mexico. To check a dentist’s license, see how to choose a dental clinic in Mexico.
How do you pay for dental work in Mexico?
Ask the clinic in writing which payment methods it accepts, whether prices are in pesos or dollars, and whether paying by card adds a fee. The State Department notes that Mexican health providers usually ask for payment before providing care. If you have private US dental insurance, ask your insurer before the trip whether it reimburses care abroad and what paperwork it needs.
